Immediate impressions:
1) The direct drive system offers so much more nuance and feedback compared to the cog system I used before.
2) 5nm of torque is plenty, having more would be nice but I imagine I’d need to dial it back to be realistic.
3) The ES steering wheel is very similar in size and feel to the Logitech I had before, upgrading to the CS v2 is recommended.
4) The quick release mechanism on the wheel was stuck at first, but after a few remounts it locked into place. Being my first QR system I didn’t know if I was doing something wrong initially. No issues since and once locked in it is very secure.
5) The Pit House software is really good, very intuitive, and easy to navigate.
6) The R5 wheelbase is remarkably compact, as an engineer by trade I appreciate efficiency in design
7) The materials, fit and finish of the components are impressive for their price point
